The Newry City Masterplan was commissioned by the Department for Social Development (DSD), with Newry and Mourne District Council (NMDC) in 2010. The role of the Newry City Masterplan is to inform regeneration and development decisions of DSD and NMDC over the next 15-20 years. The Masterplan identifies short, medium and long term proposals, all of which are designed to maximise the social, physical and economic potential of Newry. The draft masterplan was developed by a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, led by the Paul Hogarth Company (Masterplanning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture), under guidance of an Advisory Group comprised of local stakeholders, the consultation on which closed at the end of February 2011.
The multi-disciplinary team of consultant advisors comprised DTZ Consulting (Retail and Planning consultants), JMP (Transport consultants), Town-Centres Solutions (Place Marketing consultants), White Young Green (Cost consultants), Cleaver Fulton Rankin (Legal consultants).
The Masterplan covers a significant area of Newry City Centre which falls within the designated Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Area (i.e. Newry City Centre West).
